Blogging and How It’s Changed Over the Last Few Years
chad November 7, 2017

I’ve always loved blogging because it allows me to express myself and tell people how I feel. I’ve been in the game for several years and have seen it change greatly. For example, the things which mattered years ago don’t seem to matter as much now in blogging. One thing I can tell you is that blogging does allow you to make a lot of money quickly. If things are done the right way, you can make enormous money in a short period. Today, I’ll be going over how blogging has changed and what to expect going forward. I’ll be looking at different elements you need to pay close attention to because they will help you succeed in blogging. If you don’t make these changes, then you’ll fall back in your mission to conquer the online world.

Today, you just need to go through the list and pay attention to the factors discussed. Then going forward just implement them into your blogging strategy. This will ensure your blog is up to date with all the latest tweaks. Let’s get started and if you have any questions, please leave them in the comment box below the content.

Research

One thing I have seen grow in importance is your ability to conduct research. This element is not going anywhere and it’s very important to ensure your research is always done correctly. Without the right research, you won’t know where to guide your content writing and what type of keywords you should be focusing on going forward. Another reason you should continue to focus on research is because it’s so easy to do and perform. Research can be done in so many ways and I’ll discuss the top 2 ways below.

Google Trends – This is a great way to find out what keywords are trending and what type of questions people are asking. By knowing what keywords to focus on, you’ll be able to build a more solid content writing and marketing strategy. Google Trends is a free too to use.

Google Search – I would do a quick search keeping your competition in mind. Type a “target” keyword and skim through the blogs of your competition. This will give you a lot of information on what type of content is popular and which ones you should make better. If certain content has performed well for your competition then you know making it better means it will perform well for you too.

Link Building

The concept of link building has changed over the years too. It is more focused on relevance and being able to gain links from high authority websites. If you don’t, it will destroy your entire link building campaign. Poor quality links will also hurt your overall rankings getting you kicked off the search results. This will make it very hard to build your brand and grow a following. Years ago, you were able to build all types of links and this would help your rankings but now you need to focus on getting links from high authority websites. So, when building links, here’s what I recommend you should focus on when you get started…

Relevance – make sure your links come from sites relevant to yours. Make sure you skim through each website before you build links. You need to make sure your website has the same type of content as the website you are getting a link from.

Authority– you want to focus on getting links from high authority websites. Use tools like AHREF to check out the authority of the website you are doing outreach with. The higher the authority of the website, the more link value it will provide for you.

Natural – you want your links to be natural. You want them to be spread out because these links are natural. It’s impossible to build 100 links in a single day. However, it’s very natural to see a link or two built over time. The next time you sit to do link building, it’s important to keep it very natural.

Content Matters

The emphasis on content has never been so much before. Years ago you could have gotten away with writing low quality content but now you need to focus on making sure your content is number one. You need to focus on writing the best content because this is what will build attraction. This is what will convince people to come to your website. Without it, you will have a hard time driving people to your website. So, whenever you write content, you will want to ensure it’s better than your competition. It should be the best piece of content each time. Here are some pointers for when you write content next time.

Research – always do research before getting started. This will help guide your content writing allowing you to focus on your writing. It will help guide your thoughts and ensure you don’t go off track.

Keywords – during your research process, you want to ensure you have the right keywords in your content. This is very important to keep readers on your content and for natural organic rankings. It will help you achieve a higher conversion rate.

Smooth – make sure your content is easy to read. Divide up the sections so your writing does not look cluttered. Divide up your content by using sub-heads which are have keywords in them.

Grammar – make sure you correct all your spelling mistakes before you post your content. The last thing you want to do is make it hard for your readers to pull information out of your content. They are on your page to gain value and poor writing will diffuse them from doing this.

Outreach

There is a lot more emphasis on outreach than ever before. Outreach is the way to go because it will help build your business more quickly. It will allow you to connect with people that are in your industry. It will let you connect with others around the world and promote your products, etc. These days you have so many free tools which will connect you with people in your niche. This will allow you to organize your outreach so you can ask them to do the following –

First, you might want to ask them for a guest posting opportunity. You want to ask them if they will allow you to get published on their blogs. By doing this you will be able to tap into their network of people. This will allow you to grow quickly and start to build momentum. Secondly, some of these people might even share on social media. By them sharing your content or blog on social media, you’ll be able to drive a lot of people quickly. Think about it this way, imagine reaching out to someone with 100,000 followers? If they agree to share your content, you’ll be able to generate enormous buzz very quickly. Third, by doing outreach and connecting with others, you’ll be able to find out what’s new and changing in your niche.

Outreach has become very important over the years. I recommend taking 1 full day out of the week to build your network with others.

Profitable

That’s right. Blogging is very profitable if you know what you are doing. If you have a big blog with a lot of readers, then you’ll have a great time making money. You’ll be able to make enormous money through your content and by posting ads in your sidebar. But, for you to be successful in doing so, you’ll have to focus on building a presence online and will need to do it over time. You will need to be consistent and write high value content because this is the only way to attract people to your blog. Focus on your social media influence and build profiles with enormous readers. Once all this is done, I’m sure you’ll see a lot of people starting to read your blog on a consistent basis. Next, you are able to make a lot of money through your blog because there are so many more programs available. For example, you can make money by selling advertising space, promoting relevant products, creating your own products and affiliate marketing. Some top bloggers are making $50,000 – $100,000 per month easily.

Final Thoughts

I’ve seen a huge shift in blogging over the years. When I first got started you were able to rank your website in a few weeks by building low quality links, writing poor content, etc. However, Google has changed this enormously by making tweaks to their algorithm. For example, you now need to focus on quality and build links which come from high authority sites. You need to focus on writing the best piece of content every time you publish content. Implementing these changes right now will help you ensure you stay ahead of the content marketing and link building strategy. Get started now.
