5 Email Marketing Statistics You Should Check Often
chad November 15, 2017

Chad Arrington | Email marketing is huge and if you are an avid blogger with traffic, you should have a solid email marketing strategy in place. Many people don’t do enough to ensure their email marketing is setup correctly with the right forms and even tested. This slows down their potential massively and slows growth even more. One of the biggest mistakes I’ve made in blogging is taking way too add a form to my website. I could have been collecting email subscribers a long time ago but failed to get started. This is even the case even after some of my blogging mentors told me about the importance of collecting subscribers from a very easy stage.

However, with that said, if you don’ have a solid email marketing follow-up going on right now then you should add one right now. With the tools available these days, you can be up and run within a short period. For example, you can use Aweber to help set up lists and add a form within a short period. As a matter of fact, I just set up a list and added a form in under 15 minutes. With that said

Today, we’ll be focusing on the following

Email Marketing

We’ll be looking at the statistics you need to be paying close attention to after starting. We’ll be looking at what stats matter to help you increase your overall conversion rate. These are the statistics that the big bloggers use to perfect their blogging and email marketing. Let’s get started and if you have any questions, please leave them in the comment box below the content.

Unsubscribe Rates

This is one of the most important statistics you should be checking regularly. This number is a great indication of how people are finding the content you are sending. If people don’t like the autoresponder sequence, then they will unsubscribe. However, you need to check this number to find out. When you are taking the time to view this number, you are doing a lot of justice to yourself because you are now in a position to make the changes for bigger results. For example, whenever I have a high unsubscribe rate, I’m able to do a few things to correct this before it becomes too much of a serious problem. At this point, I have the following actions I can take to correct the issue. Let’s take a look –

Correct content – sometimes I’m sending the wrong type of content and I know I have to change it right away. When I see that the unsubscribe rate is high, I will try and find the best type of content to start sending. I will try different content types until I find one which works.

Fix Form – maybe my opt-in form is misleading, and I need to make some changes right away. This now gives me a chance to correct the opt-in form and even do a split test to find a better one with lower unsubscribe rates.

Open Rates

It’s important you are always checking your open rates, and this is very important if you want to succeed in email marketing. Your goal should be to achieve the highest possible open rates, but this will be hard if you’re not checking the open rates on a regular basis. If you notice your open rates are not high or are dropping, then you need to take some action to correct them right away. From my experience, you can do the following.

First, you can personalize your message, so you have a more human touch. It’s been proven that adding the name of the person in the subject will dramatically increase your open rates. Secondly, you can split test using urgency words like “limited time” or “Only Valid Tonight”. These are all very awesome strategies which have helped me gain traction after suffering from a low open rate for several years. The key is you need to keep on trying different things until you improve your open rate because if people are not opening your message, you’ll have a hard time gaining traction with the rest of your email.

Click-Through (CTR)

This is another very important statistic you need to always keep a close eye on. By looking at how people interact with your message, you’ll be able to increase your conversion rate or CTR a lot more. The definition of CTR is very simple, it’s how many people take the desired action through your message. For example, if I have a link to my message then I need to track how many people click on the link to my message after I send it out. This will show me how many of them like the product or announcement. This will also provide insight into the type of content I should be sending to my list of subscribers. So, how can you improve your CTR when sending an email message? Simply, you can try to do the following –

a) split test the link and the anchor. Try different anchor texts to see which one has the highest engagement. Soon you’ll see a pattern and you can continue to use what works best going forward.

b) Soon you’ll be able to see what type of content people love to click-through on overtime. Going forward, you can send the same type of content to your readers and increase overall conversions too.

When sending messages, you need to make sure you have a clear objective in mind and know what you are trying to accomplish. If you don’t then your messages will suffer, and you won’t be able to increase your CTR going forward.

Bounce Rate of Message

Yes…That’s Right!

You want to know how long someone remains in your message before they leave. If someone engages for a long time then you know it’s resonating with them. But, if someone doesn’t read through the entire message and they are leaving right away, then you know the way you have crafted your message is a problem. The good news is many of the new email marketing service providers have sharp reporting tools to give you all the insights you need.

Take some time to go through all of these reports so you know how well the messages are performing. Next, if your ISP doesn’t provide you with this type of data then you can install Google Analytics into the message, so you can track it using a third-party tool. Remember, the main thing you are trying to figure out is how long people stay on your message. This is a great indication of how well people resonate with your message. Changes can always be made at a later time.

Message Social Shares

Email marketing has changed so much that you can now add social share buttons to your messages. I recommend you do this because it will give you a great indication of what people think about your messages. Not only that but by others sharing your content, you’ll be able to generate enormous traffic to your blog in a short period. With that said, social media is huge and you need to always be on the front lines of changing technology. However, for you to find out what it can do for you, it’s important to pay close attention to the stats from the backend.

Email Marketing

First, you need to ensure you have the social buttons added to your messages. This can be done by simply dragging and dropping them into place. You will need to do this when creating the message before sending out. Secondly, make sure you are sending at the right time. There are certain times which work better than others. Do a quick search on Google to find out what works best for you in your niche. Third, everyday log into the backend and keep an eye on your data. See what’s working and what’s not. You can adjust accordingly after a few hours.

Final Thoughts

Email marketing is something you need to have implemented into your blogging. If you don’t then you will be losing enormous income and return visitors. Email marketing is a great way to have people coming back to your blog with investing additional money. However, for this to be successful, you need to ensure your marketing efforts is working. You need to keep an eye on your reports and continue to build momentum by looking at what’s hot and what’s not. The good news is email service providers give you everything you need to keep a close eye on the bottom line. I recommend you take some time out every day to see how you can tweak your marketing to benefit you.

Get started now and if you have any questions, then it’s important to leave them in the comment box below the content. But, start to implement these strategies now so you can start to see positive returns form the effort you put on.
